Roody was born in the small village of Port Margot in northern Haiti and emigrated to the United States at the age of twelve. Upon stepping out of JFK Airport into the cold February air, his first thought was, "Why would so many people choose to live in an icebox?" He has been searching for the hot box ever since.
Roody first trained as an engineer and software developer, working for companies such as Karp Associates and Estée Lauder. He later purchased a manufacturing company and worked as a manufacturing consultant.
An athlete from an early age, Roody competed in track during high school and ran cross-country in college. His lifelong interest in movement also led him to study a variety of martial arts, from Aikido to Muay Thai.
In 2001, Roody completed his Bikram Yoga Teacher Training. Since then, yoga has remained at the center of his life, blending athletic discipline with mindfulness and a lifelong curiosity about the body's potential.
When he isn't practicing yoga, Roody enjoys snowboarding and, after many years of resistance, has finally learned to tolerate the cold.
